John Fogarty Receives SUNY Chancellor’s Award
John L. Fogarty, Director of Capital Planning within the Campus Planning, Design &
Construction Department (CPDC) of Facilities & Services at Stony Brook University,
was recently awarded the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Award for
Excellence in Professional Service. The award provides system-wide recognition for
consistently superior professional achievement along with a commitment to a State
University and its students.
John joined Stony Brook in 2004 as the Director of Capital Planning, and has served
as the University’s architect responsible for the management of architectural design
services and the development of architectural and design standards. During his tenure
at Stony Brook, he assumed responsibility for long-term facilities programming and
planning focused on improving the on-campus experience for every student, faculty
and staff member at the University.
Specifically, John works with numerous departments and divisions as well as the campus
community to spearhead the University’s Master Plan as well as each capital improvement
project. He has also been deeply involved with the work of the Office of Multicultural
Affairs as well as the Stony Brook Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory
Committee, and has been instrumental in identifying and implementing projects that
improve access to the University.
“Our entire Campus Planning, Design and Construction team has been fortunate to work
with this incredibly committed and dedicated professional,” commented William Herrmann,
Assistant Vice President for CPDC. “John has continuously shown great concern and
respect for our campus community under his direction and leadership. He is a force
of transcendent excellence.”
